Gemini Immersive Explorations: Google’s New Way to Learn Science and History Visually

Google has added a new learning feature to Gemini called Immersive Explorations. Instead of giving you a long block of text, it shows a topic as an interactive picture that you can tap into, layer by layer, from the big idea down to the tiny details.

What is Immersive Explorations?

Think of it as an interactive encyclopedia page. You start with a big visual, like a jet engine or a lightning storm. Tap a part of it and Gemini explains that piece and lets you go deeper. Keep tapping and you can go all the way down to molecules and atoms.

Some of the topics already available include:

  • How a jet engine works
  • The physics of lightning
  • Ancient Silk Road trade routes
  • Quasars and galaxies
  • Dinosaurs
  • The molecular structure of plants

How to use Gemini Immersive Explorations

  1. Open Gemini on the web or the mobile app.
  2. Go to the Student Hub at gemini.google.com/students and choose Try immersive explorations.
  3. Or open the library directly at gemini.google.com/immersive-explorations.
  4. Pick a topic, then tap or zoom on labels and parts of the image to learn more.

Who can use it?

The feature is aimed at students but isn’t locked to them. It works with personal Google accounts, Google Workspace accounts and Workspace Individual subscriptions. Workspace admins don’t need to switch anything on.

Languages, including Hindi

It supports English, Hindi, Indonesian, Brazilian Portuguese, French and Simplified Chinese. In other languages you’ll see the English version for now. Hindi support makes this especially useful for school students in India.

What’s coming next

Google plans to bring Immersive Explorations straight into normal Gemini chats, so you won’t need to visit the library separately. Audio narration for each layer is also on the way.

Is it useful?

For visual learners, yes. Reading about how a jet engine works is one thing; tapping through each stage of it is much easier to remember. It’s a good revision tool for science and history topics, though the library is still small.
