Apple’s second-generation HomePod mini is on sale in India from today, October 30. It costs ₹18,900, and pre-orders opened earlier this week. If you were waiting for the small Apple speaker to get a proper upgrade, this is it. There is one catch, though, and we’ll get to it below.
HomePod mini 2 price in India and colours

What’s new in HomePod mini 2
S10 chip and smarter sound
The speaker now runs on Apple’s S10 chip. Apple uses it for computational audio, which means the speaker keeps checking what’s playing and adjusts loudness, dynamic range and output on the fly. In plain terms, quiet songs shouldn’t sound thin and loud tracks shouldn’t distort at high volume.
Sound Glow on the top panel
The touch surface on top now reacts to the music. Apple calls it Sound Glow. The light moves with bass and treble, can pick up the colour of the album art that’s playing, and shows calm animations for ambient sounds like rain. It’s a small touch, but it makes the speaker feel less like a plain grey ball on the shelf.
Cheaper Dolby-style home theatre
This is the biggest change for many buyers. You can now pair four HomePod mini 2 speakers with the fourth-gen Apple TV 4K for surround sound. The Apple TV works out where each speaker is in the room and sets the timing and levels by itself. Four minis cost far less than four full-size HomePods, so a proper Apple surround setup is now within reach for more people.
You can still use one speaker on its own, pair two as stereo, spread them across rooms with AirPlay, or use one as a speaker for your Mac.
Home hub and safety alerts
Like before, it works as a home hub for Apple Home. You can control lights, locks, cameras and scenes even when you are away. It can also listen for smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms and send an alert to your iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch.
The catch: new Siri comes later
The smarter, AI-powered Siri is not on the speaker yet. Apple says it will arrive in a future software update. When it does, Siri should be better at finding music, answering questions with current information from the web, and holding a more natural conversation. With an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, it will also use your personal context, such as finding a song a friend sent you in Messages.
So you are paying for the hardware now and getting the headline Siri feature later. Apple hasn’t given a date.
Should you buy it?
If you already use an iPhone and Apple TV, the HomePod mini 2 is an easy pick, especially for the four-speaker home theatre option. If you mainly want a smart assistant, it’s fair to wait until the new Siri update actually ships before spending ₹18,900.
